Craft as Time Capsule Book

Craft as Time Capsule

This project is the final documentation of Hsiao-Wen's thesis research on craft making as a preservation methodology in the current digital age. The book consists of three parts, examining the transition between the physical and virtual, material and data, user engagement and experience from the perspective of craft making and preservation. A Is Van Os Book

A Is Van Os

A is van Os is a book about the history of the Latin alphabet. The book shows the development of each letter across four periods in history. The changes are drawn with clear lines and bright colours, so each transformation is easy to follow. All original letterforms were hand carved in stone and photographed, as a reference to the first letters cut in rock. The hard cover carries a stone image finished with a gravel coating, which makes the surface tactile. The book measures 240 by 240 millimetres.

New HQ New Rules

New HQ New Rules is a signage system created for the new headquarters of Magyar Telekom. The signage presents a set of rules on office behaviour. The design is clean yet playful, so the rules feel inviting rather than commanding. The illustrations show everyday office situations with humour and a human touch. The analogue style contrasts with the size and modern character of the building. The intent is to create an immediate emotional reaction and to encourage people to follow the rules with a smile.

Cultural Wars Against Poland

Cultural Wars Against Poland is a popular science historical book series published by the National Centre for Culture in Poland. A torn page motif on the covers is formed by blind stamping. The interior is printed in two colours, black and intense red, with the red accents referring to the colours of the Polish flag. Otabind binding lets each volume open flat for easier reading.

Lazarus Effekt Education Illustrations

Lazarus Effekt

The three information graphics serve as a basis to introduce the topic of the Lazarus-Effect. They include "The Six Major Mass Extinctions", "Death Watch of the Species", as well as an information graphic of the "Local Fern Plants and Flowering Plants" (based on the Rote Liste, 2018). The Lazarus Effect is based on the theme of the Lazarus-Effect, as coined by paleontologist David Jablonski. This pertains to the unintentional rediscovery (by accident, through expedition or through relocation projects) of a previously lost or considered extinct form of life.
